Sunflower Necklace - Art Elements June Challenge

I've had the idea of this sunflower necklace in my head for a while and when I saw that the June challenge on the Art Elements Blog was Sunflowers I knew I needed to get it done. I was away on holiday for most of June so it was a bit touch and go as to whether I would get it finished in time and to be honest I shouldn't have been making it at all as I have the County Show next weekend which I need to get ready for. But, by the skin of my teeth, I managed to get it finished. Here it is:

Merry Christmas

I'd like to take the opportunity to say thankyou to all who have supported me over the past year. To customers old and new Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2018.

Christmas Ornament Design Challenge

Ok, so I cheated a little for the Christmas Ornament Design Challenge held by the Art Elements Blog team. When the challenge to create a handmade christmas ornament was launched in Novemeber I had just made some ornaments that were perfect for it.

I've recently been skip diving or (dumpster diving as they call it in the US) at a local glaziers. I think that it is awful that so much waste glass is thrown away and I am making it my mission to use some of it up.

On my last visit the skip had recently been emptied. Last time it was full with glass.

A successfull first fair

I've been really busy over the last few weeks getting ready for my first fair in 2 years. I am selling my new seaside themed jewellery along with some new interests that I learnt at some courses I attended in September. Stained glass, fused glass and glass mirror on mosaics. All glass of course! Such a versatile medium it's impossible not to get bored with it.

Last weekend was The Cowes Christmas Fair and Cowes Yacth Haven on the Isle of Wight. Saturday was the busiest day for me and very successfull.

This is a photo of my newly designed stand.

2nd place in Embodiment!

I'm back from a fantastic time in Pittsburgh, Pensylvania, USA. I was invited to stay with my friend and fellow flameworker Leslie Kaplan (Rush Creek Designs). Leslie was one of the main organisers of Embodiment - a juried jewellery and wearables exhibit put on by the Pittsburgh Glass Centre and 3 Rivers Glass Beadmakers. An amazing experience.

Necklaces on display. IOW Glass Museum

I'm delighted to announce that 3 of my competition necklaces are now on display in the Isle of Wight Glass Museum. Much better than them sitting in a box on the top of my wardrobe!

The museum has done a blog post with an interview

Flights booked to Pittsburgh America! - 3rd September 2017

I can hardly believe it's happening, rather than send my 2 necklaces to the USA and risk them breaking in the post I am going to take them in person!

Embodiment entries - August 15th 2017

I've entered 2 necklaces into Embodiment - a juried jewellery and wearables exhibit organised by the Pittsburgh Glass Centre and 3 Rivers Glass Beadmakers (USA).

The idea for my lastest piece happened after seeing a Dale Chihuly chandelier in Harrods, London. His pieces always inspire awe and wonderment on how they are made, the shapes and colours and cohesion that bring them all together.
